...so when Phil Marsh recently unveiled a new arrangement
of "Pick Up the Pieces" for Hip Pocket to start playing, it reminded me of the last time I was in a band that played that
song... 30 years ago!
The more things change, the
more they stay the same
TransAction was a band formed
by my friend Jon Negus and made up of many of my other high school friends. We were just a bunch of skinny teenagers
playing pop tunes in bars so we could save up money for college.
In the photo above are (left to right): Jon Negus (band
leader, sax, vocals), myself (drums), Kris Bergren (vocals, flute), Eric Swartzentruber (lead trumpet, even though he's holding
a bari horn), Phil LaBar (keyboards, trumpet), Chris Negus (Jon's brother, not actually in the band but he helped balance
out the picture), and Dan Krimm (bass). Not pictured: Chad Edwards who played keyboards at many of the gigs and on some
of the recordings below, including the live recordings; Tom Stange, who played tenor sax on the original TransAction demo.
